The biggest doop here.
I started on my second Veera Välimäki sweater. Knitting with Eijan Kudontapuodin 50% merino 50% silk (hand dyed yummy yarn from Finland) as the MC and Ginger Twist Studio BFL Rock Sock 100%BFL in Little Cat Feet (hand dyed yummy yarn from Edinburgh) as the contrasting color.
Because the sweater has a lot of purl sides – to my liking – I decided to go on KnitPro cubics here. My purl comes prettier with them.
After admiring pictures of the Breathing Space from other projects in Ravelry – I decided to give it a go, as it did look kind of super difficult. But self development is very important to me – in working life as well. And I did manage to make a few mistakes – and learn two new techniques. One of them I had had been doing – so far in my knitting days – supremely wrong. The other – i had been doing wrong, but my “winging” had never caused problems, unlike the former. 😀
wrap and turn
it is not as simple as it sounds. I’ve been wrapping and turning wrong – all my previous knits (that had it). Mainly because it is how i understood it was supposed to go. But as i finished my yoke. Where did all those stitched disappear? Hmphm.. a bit tight..
It might look complicated but it is so well written that even a nincompoop like me was able to get it done!
Then I took a dive into Youtube. Wrap and Turn. There are several videos on the subject and all that i watched are in the american knitting technique. So a tad complex to follow – but eventually i figured it out and and.. started again. And got it right – had as many stitches as the pattern urged to have. After the first hurdle with the wrap&turn section – this sweater turned super easy to knit.
materials
I bought this yarn – almost ages ago as in December 2015 – from an overload-cute dye studio in Edinburgh (Ginger Twist Studio). Amazing yarn.
The color is called “little cat feet”. Perfect for a crazy cat lady. Any yarn that has the word cat in it. I need it – *crazy whiny laugh* 😀
last thoughts
So. The knitting itself was fun and the pattern was excellent – but the person i knitted this for – gave me incorrect dimensions .. so it turned out a tent for her. dammit mom! 😀 well it’s a dress with long sleeves – she’ll just belt it like a pro 😀
I’ll for sure knit this one again – with some technical variations 😛
Pattern is by Veera Välimäki – published in Interpretations vol 3 (this is a link to the patter)
